Certain Phrases Can Speed Up or Harm the Sale of Your Home

Professor Paul Anglin, a real-estate economist in Guelph, Ontario and his colleagues from the University of Windsor – along with researchers from CMHC – examined about 20,000 real-estate listings and sales data over a four-year period.

They discovered that certain phrases may help – or harm – the sale of a house!

Here are some of their findings.

  • Listings with the words “beautiful” or “gorgeous” sold 15% faster.
  • If “landscaping” was in a listing, it sped up a sale by 20%.
  • Saying that a property was in “move-in condition” quickened the sale by 12%.
However, the research also found that certain phrases may actually SLOW the sale of your home. Words that reeked of desperation – like “motivated” and “must sell” – slowed sales by 30%!
